Bought this for my husband for Christmas 2009. It worked a couple of times okay and was very very bright. Loved it when it worked, but then it just stopped working after 3 days. May have been a lemon but I will not buy again. Still waiting for my refund from Amazon.

I was looking for a beam that would isolate and illuminate a person at 150 feet. I was impressed that this accomplished it at twice the distance. The additional bonus of batteries being enclosed and a "bulb" that never needs replacing was awesome.

PROS:
bright enough to illuminate a roadside tire change
head pivots from horizontal to about 45 degrees up. 3 positive "click stop" positions are set in the swivel neck: horizontal, slight up angle, & severe up angle
lightweight
freestanding (stands on its own, but probably not heavy enough to remain standing in moderate wind)
weather resistant (the seals look good enough to use in the rain, but i would not recommend immersing it)
a free set of 4 alkaline C cell batteries is included
advantages of the LED bulb:
long run time (LEDs are a lot more energy efficient than halogen bulbs, and therefore a set of batteries lasts much longer when fueling an LED)
shock resistant
bulb never requires replacement
advantages of alkaline batteries:
long shelf life
batteries are inexpensive (when compared to NiMH, Li Ion, or SLA rechargeables)
no maintenance charging
less weight than rechargeables
CONS:
a little too lightweight to remain standing in any significant wind
it's a bit bigger than strictly necessary for a bulb housing, battery compartment and handle. it would be more portable if designed a bit smaller.
not bright enough for searching -- for that purpose you will probably need a halogen spotlight (or a large array of LEDs) with rechargeable batteries
disadvantages of the LED bulb:
not as bright as a halogen
disadvantages of alkaline batteries:
lower run time than rechargeables
BOTTOM LINE:
this is a great portable light if you want something bright enough to help if your car gets stuck, and don't want the hassle and expense of maintaining rechargeable batteries. i recommend it.
